Climate Change and Migration: Compounding Factors
Different yet parallel perspectives on the profound effects of climate change on migration will be the topic of this very important and timely webinar.
Along with policies that favor imported goods, conflict over water resources and arable land, and large-scale corporate farming activities, climate change is a growing and significant factor in the movement and displacement of people in many parts of the world. Gregg Brekke will discuss the latest research with and about migrants, along with published reports of the effects of climate change, especially on vulnerable people, many of whom rely on agriculture for their livelihoods.
Andrew Kang Bartlett will discuss climate displacement of trees and animals and related impact on people. He will talk about forest assisted migration and indigenous reforestation efforts, along with specific stories of work being done by two Presbyterian Tree Fund recipients in Minnesota and Alabama. Andrew will also discuss the recent work of groups in Alaska.
