She graduated in 1984 from the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and spent 15 years working in the petroleum industry in technical sales and engineering support with accounts in the Midsouth region. Following early retirement, she spent three years in nonprofit leadership roles with two different local nonprofits. Beginning in 2009, her career focused on energy efficiency and climate action planning. From 2009-2020, she worked as the Community Director for the U.S. Green Building Council for four states in the South-Central Region promoting LEED sustainable design and construction. In 2021, she was named the Director of Sustainability for Central Arkansas Water focusing on development and implementation of the Net Zero Carbon 2050 Climate Action Plan for 500,000 drinking water customers surrounding Little Rock. She “mostly” retired in the spring of 2024 but stays involved as a consultant to Metroplan for the implementation of a $49M EPA Climate Protection Grant.
She is member of the Little Rock Parks and Recreation Commission, an ordained elder in the Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) , and a Board member of Ferncliff Camp and Conference Center. Linda is married to David H. Smith, has two adult sons, and two beautiful grandchildren. She enjoys hiking, biking and kayaking.
